Speaking to Liverpool Echo he said with just over a year left on his contract he may be playing for his future at Liverpool. Injury to Jordan Henderson the Liverpool captain has opened the door for Allen to fight for a position as regular starter in the Liverpool midfield.
Allen has featured 27 times in all competitions for the Reds this season. He started in the 4-1 win against Stoke on Sunday and had an impressive game and was given a standing ovation by the fans when substituted late in the game.
Allen had this to say to the Liverpool Echo, “At a club like Liverpool you are always playing for your future. Maybe more so now than ever before for me but it’s not something I’ve thought too much about or focused too much on.”
“My focus all season has been on staking a claim. Inevitably there are injuries and suspensions throughout the season so you will get opportunities.”
“My aim hasn’t changed. It’s about trying to make sure when you get an opportunity that you take it with both hands. There is a lot still to play for this season and there’s still a lot to achieve. I want to be a part of that.”
Allen was used as a half-time substitute in the first leg Europa League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund. He will be hoping for a starting place or playing some part in the return fixture at Anfield on Thursday.
